As we promised, there will be no joke about ninja turtles. The name Donatello means – little Donato. Whether the sculptor was so nicknamed for his small stature or there was some bigger Donato unknown to art historians, we do not know for sure. In general, the topic of Donato’s distribution by size in medieval Italy is very little studied, as is the fact why the sculpted lions have such stupid eyes.
