In August we talk about comets. Today is Halley’s Comet.
Halley’s Comet is one of the most famous comets. Thanks to its 75-year periodicity, we have a very long history of observing it. The last time Halley’s Comet was visible from Earth was in 1986, and it was very poorly visible. This did not prevent panic sentiments associated with its appearance. The next time the comet will fly in our visibility in 2061, we have 36 years to come up with a reason to panic and prepare our telescopes.
