The Red Forest

1 Min Read

In May we talk about forests. Today – The Red Forest.

The Red Forest is an area of approximately 202 square kilometers of trees adjacent to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant that absorbed the largest share of the radioactive dust released during the reactor explosion in 1986.

The high dose of absorbed radiation during the accident caused the trees, primarily pine trees, to die and turn a brownish-red color within 30 minutes of the explosion. During decontamination efforts, the forest was bulldozed and buried. Nature is recovering naturally here, but soil contamination remains very high.

In the meantime, something more green. Our new SEALIGHT (US) offer with 8.46% payout.
