Apple Forest

1 Min Read

In June we talk about forests. Today – Apple Forest.

Apple Forest is the name given to the mixed forests at the foot of the Pamir Mountains. This place has a fascinating history: a Soviet tree breeding station was located in the Pamir Mountains, cultivating varieties adapted to high altitudes. After the collapse of the USSR, the field laboratory closed, and what happened next is unknown. Whether the seeds naturally fell into the soil, or whether it was a farewell act by the horticultural scientists, a wild apple forest has grown at the foot of the mountains ever since.
