The Mannequin Challenge, like most challenges, emerged in 2016. The idea is for a group of people to suddenly freeze in various poses, mimicking mannequins, while a cameraman films the action.
The underlying subtext, of course, is ambiguous. On the one hand, it’s a critique of capitalism, where people are used like puppets. On the other, it’s a desperate attempt to stop time slipping away.
