To write our articles, we always turn to the best experts in their field, and they often lead us to the most unpredictable places. Therefore, it is not easy to surprise us, but we have never had to conduct an interview on the beams of a skyscraper under construction.
Our expert turned out to be a short man in work overalls, very short, to be honest. And he began in a rather boring manner, – “To begin with, let’s separate the concepts of growth and increase. If something increases, it means that it was smaller before. And growth implies a smoother and more constant development.”
Since our interviewer is afraid of heights, instead of asking questions he can only moan, sometimes wipe his sweaty palms on himself, not look down and wish that this nightmare would end as soon as possible. Our specialist is quite satisfied with this development of the dialogue and he continues, striding along the beams at an incredible height and arguing, “Offer rates should logically obey the general laws of economics: for super-popular offers the rate will be lower, but for offers in niches with high competition they will be correspondingly higher.”
While we continue not to look down, our narrator seems to have grown a little taller, although it is certainly impossible to say anything definite when the structure is swinging from the upper wind and your legs are numb with horror. “And there are also seasonal offers that raise the rates – imagine by season, like spring discounts on gyms or summer vacations or autumn discounts on swimsuits or after New Year’s self-development courses. It’s a pity, by the way, that there are no courses on self-increasment.”
We understand in our minds that it was a joke, but we have no way to express anything articulately. And our constantly growing interlocutor continues, – “But with great opportunities come great responsibility, right? Usually, only proven affiliates with a good history and quality traffic are allowed to increase rates. Of course, all affiliates are such from the start and each of them deserves the highest rates. Unfortunately, not all advertisers think the same. Otherwise, we would not be talking about increasing rates. All rates would initially be as high as possible. What a wonderful, I dare say, high world!”
Here we allow ourselves to agree for the first time, and say that we would like something more down-to-earth. In the literal sense of the word. And, miraculously, seeing our situation, the specialist decides to take pity on us and literally carries us away from the heights, growing in our eyes with each step, if not in fact, then morally. And standing on solid ground, we ask him the first meaningful question, – “We understood this whole allegory with the heights at the very beginning, why couldn’t we conduct the interview, say, in an orchard or watching the tides on a sublunary beach?”
“I told you that offers with increased rates must be earned, but be that as it may, I will give them to you absolutely free”:
