In September we talk about Southern Gothic. Today is Yoknapatawpha.

 

Yoknapatawpha is a fictional county in Mississippi written by William Faulkner, where much of his work takes place. Yoknapatawpha is based on Lafayette County in the same state. The name Yoknapatawpha (yes, we like to say it) comes from the Chickasaw Indian language and means “broken land.” We don’t know what could be more gothic.
