Backgammon is possibly the oldest board game on earth. A version of it was played by the Egyptians 3,500 years ago, then by the ancient Iranians, the Romans, and, in fact, by all nations to this day. Like many other things, backgammon was brought to Europe by the Crusaders. They favored “short backgammon” because it was uncomfortable to play for long periods in the heat while wearing armor.
