Polunochnik

1 Min Read

In March we talk about local winds. Today – Polunochnik.

Polunochnik is a strong northeasterly wind in the polar regions of Russia and Siberia. Typically, the Polunochnik blows from high latitudes (beginning at midnight) and brings high humidity and rain. In Arkhangelsk, it is a northwesterly wind; on Lake Baikal, it is called Barguzin. On the Yenisei, as a gusty wind, it is considered a sign of approaching cold weather and is called Rekostav or Zamoroznik.
