In June we talk about landscape design. Today – Garamantes gardener.
The Garamantes are an ancient people of North Africa, now extinct. However, the Garamantes gardener was likely even older. This unnamed historical figure was likely a tribal shaman, and he created a garden with herbs and plants. Interestingly, archaeological evidence suggests that in addition to known medicinal herbs, he grew flowers with no known medicinal properties. Apparently, this was simply for aesthetic purposes, making him history’s first landscape designer.
