Motuo County is located in Tibet, at the southern foothills of the Himalayas. The Tibetan name translates as “hidden and mysterious lotus.” The area is considered one of the most difficult to access in the world: a trek there takes four days and is only accessible from June to October. From November to June, the mountain trails are covered in ice and snow, and from June to September comes the rainy season, with the risk of avalanches, landslides, and mudflows. On the final leg, travelers must cross nine rivers, including a 200-meter suspension bridge.
